Naraina Pillai is determined. Although his cotton business is destroyed by a fire, Naraina bounces back. He becomes a successful merchant and community leader. To help others in society, Naraina builds the original Sri Mariamman Temple at South Bridge Road. Today, Pillai Road helps us remember this pioneer's contributions to society.
