Sing to the Dawn

Written by Burmese-American Minfong Ho, this book tells the story of a young village girl from Thailand called Dawan who wins a scholarship to study in the city. She overcomes many obstacles which come her way and rises above society’s stereotypes. This book was awarded first prize by the Council of Interracial Books for Children as well as the S.E.A. WriteAward, and has been adopted as a literature text in numerous schools in Singapore. It was also adapted into both a musical and feature film in Singpore with rave reviews.
